Downtown Artist & Label Services (DA&LS) grows in Música Mexicana with a slate of major signings, high-profile artist wins, and promotions that reflect a deepening investment in Mexico’s fast-growing independent music landscape.
At the heart of this growth are recent partnerships with leading regional artists and labels, including a newly expanded partnership with Genesis Records to include Mexican singer-songwriter, Edgardo Nuñez’s catalog; a partnership with genre-defining singer and composer, Virlan Garcia and partnerships with norteño ensemble, Conjunto Nuevo Amanecer, rising Música Mexicana artist, Hernán Trejo and Movic Records, the influential label behind iconic rock bands PXNDX and Los Claxons.
This builds on DA&LS’s significant success with recently signed breakout artist Victor Mendivil via label Rico o Muerto, whose latest album, Tutankamon, charted on Billboard US Latin, surpassing 10 million streams on its first day, and Netón Vega, whose 2025 debut album drove more than 2 billion cumulative streams, solidifying him as one of Música Mexicana’s global voices. This also extends to DA&LS’ recent partnership with D Luna Music, the strategic label behind Juan Freer’s recent milestone of 400 million streams.
The success of Victor Mendivil’s album Tutankamon has been a proud moment for us, and Downtown Artist & Label Services has played a key role in making that possible, comments Óscar Maydon, Artist and Co-Founder of Rico o Muerto. “Their transparency, support, and deep understanding of the genre and industry has always made them the trusted partner of choice for Rico o Muerto. We look forward to continuing our work together and building on this momentum.
Downtown’s growth is further underscored by the promotion of Lorena Cabral to Director, A&R, Mexico. Since joining Downtown in 2024 as Senior Manager, A&R, Cabral has played a pivotal role in identifying and developing talent in the Música Mexicana space, contributing to the signings of Virlan Garcia, Conjunto Nuevo Amanecer, Movic Records and more. Cabral will now lead Downtown’s A&R efforts across Mexico, deepening the company’s presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing music markets.
“The creative energy coming out of Mexico right now is undeniable and we’re excited to be part of it by partnering with some of the most visionary artists in the country,” said Downtown Artist & Label Services Director, A&R, Mexico, Lorena Cabral. “Our mission has always been to empower creators on their own terms, and the Música Mexicana artists we’re working with are redefining what success looks like on a global stage.”
In addition, Daniela Gutiérrez has been elevated to Director, Marketing, Latin, Downtown Artist & Label Services. Based in Mexico City, Gutiérrez has led marketing campaigns across Mexico, driving regional success for artists and labels including, Netón Vega (Josa Records), Luis R Conriquez (Kartel Music) and the late Lefty SM (Alzada), whose release, ‘Por Mi México Remix’ in collaboration with leading figures in the genre, has become an anthem of Mexican urban identity. Since joining Downtown in 2022, her leadership and deep industry knowledge have been vital to growing Downtown’s marketing capabilities throughout Latin America.
“By helping our artists stay true to themselves while reaching new global audiences, Lorena and Daniela’s leadership has been a huge part of Downtown’s success in the region,” said Downtown Artist & Label Services VP, A&R (Latin), Raymond Tapia. “Their work has helped lay the foundation for the next generation of Música Mexicana, we’re excited to keep showing up and supporting however we can.”
